Our Gallery is Open in Astoria Oregon
Okay, so if you’ve been following me for a while you probably know that my husband and I relocated to the northwest Oregon coast this year. We bid adieu to the blistering southern California summers and settled in a beautiful new place.
Part of our plan around this big move was finding a town that we felt was a good fit for us to open an art gallery. It’s been a long time dream of mine to have a space to showcase our work and support the work of other artists.
James and I settled on trying to find a space in Astoria, OR and this summer we struck gold. We found a magic space that was in the process of being lovingly restored by the building’s owner. It is located at 1389 Duane St., the corner space on 14th and Duane streets, underneath the Norblad hotel, in the historic Miller-Jeffers building. It was originally a bank back in the 1930’s and still has one of the bank vault spaces that we’ll be opening for small works exhibits in 2020.
I immediately fell in love with the nearly 20 foot ceilings and gorgeous tall windows that face northeast. We have a mezzanine space that we envisioned using for exhibits as well as our office and studio area for me. Needless to say, we stopped looking for other spaces - this was it. This was going to be the home for our new venture.
We took possession of the space on October 18th and celebrated our Grand Opening on Saturday, Nov. 9th in conjunction with the monthly 2nd Saturday Art Walk in Astoria. It was a rush to be ready in time, and there were definitely some sleep deprived nights leading up to the opening… but we did it!
Vaulted Gallery welcomed a wonderful group of visitors that evening and we had so much fun. The local Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for us, which you can see HERE.
Edward Stratton, a reporter for the Daily Astorian, came by to chat with us and wrote a lovely piece on the gallery for his paper. You can read the article HERE.
Almost two weeks later and we are starting to get our feet under ourselves. Finally caught up on sleep we are starting to talk about future exhibits and plan for 2020. We couldn’t be happier with the welcome we’ve received from the community of Astoria and we’re so thrilled to be here.
I will share bits and pieces of what we’re up to here on my blog (I will mostly keep it relevant to my work). If you’d like to follow along with the gallery happenings, James’ photography and learn a bit more about what we’re doing here in Astoria, you can visit the gallery’s website: www.vaultedgallery.com or follow us on Facebook and Instagram @vaultedgallery.
